CLOSING OF THE BONES CEREMONY

Cerrada de Caderas, Closing of the Bones

A healing modality for experiences that have affected the womb and pelvis.

The Cerrada de Caderas is a traditional postpartum practice rooted in Mexican and Mesoamerican lineage that offers support and closure to new parents, and anyone who feels raw, unsettled, or “open” after a significant life experience.

During pregnancy and birth, the pelvis and ligaments loosen and open to allow the passage of a baby. Afterwards, it is deeply supportive to bring these bones back into a point of stasis and help the organs and ligaments return to their original position.

Physically, this may support pelvic comfort, uterine and hormonal health, incontinence, lower back pain, and prolapse. Emotionally, this ceremony offers space to process the experience of childbirth, honor all the visible and invisible changes, and allow for closure and punctuation to the journey.

In Mexican Curanderismo, we call this “seating the spirit” back into the body after the journey of pregnancy and childbirth.

You don't have to be newly postpartum to receive a bone closing.

A Bone Closing Ceremony may be helpful for you after:

  • Pregnancy loss, miscarriage, or abortion

  • Ceserean delivery

  • A difficult or traumatic birth experience

  • Fertility journeys, IVF, failed transfers

  • Healing after experiences of sexual trauma

  • Physical or emotional experiences involving the womb space

  • Marriage, divorce, or relationship transitions

  • Grief or major life changes

  • Loss of a job or a shift in identity

  • Moving homes or entering a new chapter

  • Entering menopause or other hormonal transitions

  • Times when you feel raw, open, or really need to be held

You do not have to be in a moment of hardship to receive a closing ceremony. Sometimes we close the bones simply to honor a chapter that has ended, and create space for what is ready to arrive.

Your ceremony includes:

  • Holistic health intake to help me understand your needs and provide the most supportive, personalized experience possible.

  • A grounding plática (heart straightening conversation) to talk about your birth story, your current state of body and mind, and anything you’re seeking to process and release through this experience.

  • Full body Sobada (palpation) of major joints and organs, and a sobada de matriz (palpation of the womb) to assess your womb and bladder position

  • Rebozo wrapping of your major joints to “close” your bones

  • Copal, herbal, and egg limpia to remove mal aire (stuck, old energy)

  • Warm tea and a grounding small meal to help you integrate after ceremony
